One-to-one therapy with me provides a supportive and understanding space tailored to your unique experiences. Together, we’ll explore what’s happening in your life—whether it’s confusion, sadness, anxiety, or a sense of being stuck. Using an integrative approach, I’ll draw on different methods to suit your needs, helping you uncover insights, process emotions, and find clarity. Our relationship will be central to the work, offering a safe and restorative foundation to heal, grow, and reconnect with yourself. Whether facing immediate challenges, navigating life transitions, or seeking deeper fulfilment, we’ll work at your pace to move toward the life you want.
Below is an overview of the beginning process of counselling with me.
Purpose: The initial contact is a chance for both the counsellor and the client to arrange a convenient time to meet and address any quick questions.
Forms: The client will be sent forms to complete either online or in person during the first session, which may include consent forms and questionnaires to gather important information.
Discussion: In the first session, the client explains why they have chosen counselling and what they hope to address. This is an opportunity to discuss the counselling process itself, what it might look like, and how the counsellor can support the client.
Collaborative Approach: The counsellor encourages the client to ask questions or express concerns. If something feels unclear or uncomfortable, the client is encouraged to speak up. Counselling is a shared effort, so both parties have a role in shaping the process.
Reflection Time: After the first session, both the counsellor and client are invited to reflect on how they feel about the potential working relationship.
Trial Period: After the first session, both the counsellor and client have the opportunity to reflect and decide if they feel comfortable working together.
Commitment to 6 Weekly Sessions: If both parties feel it’s a good fit, the client commits to six weekly sessions. This time allows for the exploration of deeper issues and the development of a therapeutic relationship.
The Nature of the Work: Counselling is a talking space, but the work involves more than just conversation. The counsellor emphasises that real progress often comes from deep reflection and understanding.
Modality and Insights: The counsellor will share their approach (likely Integrative Counselling in your case) and the insights they offer in terms of how they view the process and its possible outcomes.
The Road map of Change: The first key goal is for the client to feel “held” — meaning they feel supported and safe in the counselling environment. Once that feeling of trust and safety is established, the therapeutic work can begin.
Evaluation: After six sessions, the counsellor will assess the progress made, identify key areas of focus, and suggest directions for continued work.
Why 6 Weeks? This time frame allows for the development of a narrative, a flow where both counsellor and client can identify and begin addressing key issues. It also helps in building a working relationship where deeper exploration is possible.
